Reversible Top with Bunny Ears Shoulder Ties for 18-Inch Dolls---Free PDF Sewing Pattern and Tutorial

This reversible summer top I have designed for 18-inch dolls has an A-line shape and has shoulder ties that resemble bunny ears, which could be fastened at the shoulders. You can use two contrast fabrics for the outer and inner sides of the top.

With this reversible top you get two tops in one.

I have included the link to the free pattern below.

The measurements of the doll I used are

Chest 11.5 inches
Waist 11 inches
Hip 11.75 inches

This pattern will fit dolls like Our Generation dolls and American Girl dolls and dolls with similar measurements.

Use the below diagram as a guide to assemble the pattern pages:

Seam and hem allowances are included in the pattern.

For both the outer fabric (that is, fabric 1) and the inner fabric (that is, fabric 2):

Neckline and armholes: 1/4 inch
Edges of the bunny ears shoulder ties: 1/4 inch
Side seam: 1/2 inch
Bottom hem: 1/2 inch

2. Cut the Fabric

  • Cut one front piece and one back piece on fold from fabric 1.
  • Cut one front piece and one back piece on fold from fabric 2.

3. Finish the neckline, shoulder ties, and the armhole curve

  • With right sides facing, sew the neckline, armhole, and bunny ear ties of the front piece of fabric 2 to the front piece of fabric 1, with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

  • Repeat this for the back piece of fabric 2 and the back piece of fabric 1.

4. Sew the Side Seams

  • Open up the front and back pieces of fabric 2 from keep  away from nofabric 1 so that the shoulder ties fold back and sit on fabric 1.

  • Place the front and back pieces of fabric 1 and fabric 2 right sides together matching the side seams.
  • Pin and sew 1/2-inch seams along both sides.

  • Finish the edges with a zigzag stitch, serger, or pinking shears to prevent fraying.

5. Hem the Bottom Edge

  • Fold the bottom edge of fabric 1 and fabric 2  1/4 inch up and press.
  • Sew along the folded edge.

Final Touches

  • Trim any loose threads.
  • Try the top on your doll and adjust the shoulder ties as needed.
