Seam allowances:
Seam allowances are included in the pattern: Skirt: 3/8 inch at the waistline, 3/4 inch at the hemline, and 1/2 inch at the side seams.
Waistband: 1/4 at the top, 3/8 at the bottom, and 1/2 inch at the side seam.
Suggested fabrics:
You can use a variety of fabrics to make this top, such as quilting cotton, gingham, linen, seersucker, etc.
This skirt becomes even more charming when you add creative contrasts or embellish it with details like buttons or bows.
How to Sew the A-line skirt:
You can make the A-line skirt in 4 simple steps:
1. Join the sides using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Serge or zigzag the raw edges.
2. Finish the hemline of the skirt. Fold the hemline 1/4 inch down the wrong side, press, and again 1/4 inch down the wrong side, press, and sew along the folded edge.
3. Attach the waistband to the skirt to create the casing for the elastic. Join the short edges of the waistband with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Fold one long edge down the wrong side by 1/4 inch. Sew the other edge to the skirt with a 3/8 inch seam allowance. Now fold the waistband in half down the wrong side and sew along the folded edge of the skirt, leaving a 3 inch opening to feed in the elastic.
4. Insert the elastic into the casing. Take an elastic band that has length = your waist measurement minus 1 inch and width 1.25 inch. Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic and feed it through the casing. Once you reach to the other end, overlap the short end of the elastic band by 1/2 inch and place a few zigzag stitches to hold them together. Sew the opening in the casing closed.
